Blessings, Back Hoes, and Crafts!!

I've been dreaming of Fall. I always get all weird about Fall. I dream of Central Park... And sweaters, and scarves, and boots... Crunchy leaves. School supplies. Pumpkin EVERYTHING! Don't get me started.

Oh, I am so excited for it. And it is coming. I can feel it! (Despite the warm weather.)

Logan and I went out to check the garden this morning... We were thinking that it should be slowing down because the end of Summer is near.

But, we found out that we are much more blessed than we had thought. A little too blessed for just two people who like to eat things other than just vegetables for every meal.

Yes, that is FOUR huge zucchini! Which might be ok if we didn't have SIX already in our fridge.

Maybe we'll wrap our veggies in bacon or something.

Also, I learned where earwigs get their names. Bleh!
(But so much better than the explanation my siblings told me when I was little... I'll let you use your imagination on this one.)
Home grown corn is worth it though! Delicious!!

Machinery Adventure:

I got to control the back hoe as we pulled a neighbor's tree out of their yard.

Logan only taught me how to control the bucket. Then, mid-tree-pull, he said, "Ok, now back up!"

Uhhhh....

So, I did the best I could until Logan's dad got there. :)

As a newlywed couple, we don't have many holiday decorations. So I've been working on some fun, cheap Fall ones! Pinterest is my greatest ally.

Also. I'd like to mention that while The Dollar Store is a pretty cool place, it is not a very good craft store. Haha I'll have to make a trip to the "big city" forty minutes away for supplies soon.

I found this one here.

I had to modify it because mine ended up having a huge hole in the middle. So I took a soda lid and hot glued a bunch of pieces of twine in it. I also added curled paper for some vines. I've been doing her twine pumpkins too! They are pretty cute and easy!

I found this one here.

Super cute and easy. :) I'm going to make it a pillow.

I'm still trying to figure out the purpose I'm going for with this blog. Thanks for your patience as I do.

Stay happy!

Dawn the Rescued Kitty-Baby

So, I need you to know something. I hate cats. I'm even allergic to them to make it worse.

But here's something else. I love babies. And not just human babies.

This is a story of when my love for babies overcame my hatred for cats. ... Ok. Just one cat baby.

Our shop has an infestation of cats. Nasty, ferral, devil cats. It is an animal control nightmare. But sometimes these cats have cute kittens. There's a new batch living in the chicken coop, and they are SO cute. One of them got into a bucket of oil. This is how we found him on Saturday. He was shivering and so pathetically helpless.

He just needed our help.

So we gathered him up and took him next door to Logan's parents' to Dawn him to cleanliness.

Jill was the best at scrubbing him.

We decided to name him Dawn.

We cuddled him dry and took him back home all clean and warm.

We checked on him yesterday, and we are pretty sure his mom accepted him back and is still feeding him. :)

In other news:

We celebrated Harry Potter's Birthday (July 31) in style in the grain truck.

I learned to snap/ can beans and watch Christmas movies during the summer. (A Searle family tradition.)

We walked through a corn field. (And kissed between the ears. Baha)

I learned to drive the little tractor used for chores.

We conquered Bathtub rock at The City of Rocks. [again.]

Me at the top.

Logan at the top. :)

I learned to change water in the spud field. (And got the 4-wheeler stuck in the mud... Ooops.)

And we're staying happy, sappy, and weird.

Stay joyful!
